 Winners of Qiyas Excellence Awards Announced at International Conference on Education Evaluation Opening Ceremony

The Education Evaluation Commission, represented by the National Center for Assessment, is planning to recognize outstanding students and schools in both GAT, SAAT, and Postgraduate GAT tests next Tuesday the 26th of Rabi’ Al-Awwal 1440H, in addition to those who have demonstrated excellence in research and development.

Head of the Conference’s Media Committee, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Rasheed, explained that the Excellence Award ceremony will be held during the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Education Evaluation 2018 “Future Skills: Development and Assessment”, which is organized by the Education Evaluation Commission under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. The three-day Conference will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh.

Al-Rasheed added that the National Center for Assessment launched the Qiyas Excellence Award based on scientific standards comparable to other international awards. The launching of the Qiyas Award falls within the realm of the Center’s professional and social responsibilities, as well as its role in achieving its mission in the fulfillment of the role of educational institutions’ in the development of education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to build a knowledge economy. Further, the Award helps the Center recognize the students who have achieved outstanding scores on its tests, in addition to encouraging educational institutions to enable educational environments that foster leadership and excellence. The Award also encourages researchers and research centers by creating a competitive environment in areas of research excellence.

Dr. Ibrahim noted that this is the seventh edition of the Award, and it aims to promote the culture of excellence while drawing attention to outstanding individuals on both local and international scales. It also aims at promoting the Center’s scientific and social role locally and internationally, as well as spreading the culture of assessment in the society.

Al-Rasheed stressed that the Qiyas Excellence Award for Scientific Distinction is one of the Awards granted by the Center. It is an annual award that is granted to 10 male and 10 female high school graduates—from both scientific and humanities tracks—who have achieved the top scores on GAT and SAAT tests in the year preceding the year of the Award after meeting certain conditions. It is worth noting that both Saudis and residents are eligible for this Award. It is also granted to 4 male and 4 female university students. Each winner receives 10,000 SR, in addition to a medal and certificate of excellence.

Distinguished schools will also be recognized during the ceremony. The Excellence Award for Distinguished Schools is granted to the top 10 schools (5 boys’ schools and 5 girls’ schools) after meeting certain conditions. The schools are ranked based on the performance of their students during the three years preceding the year of the Award. Further, the best research, books, studies, applications, and practices in the field of assessment and measurement will also be recognized. This Award is granted every two years, which coincides with the International Conference on Education Evaluation. It aims at enhancing and developing scientific research in the field of assessment and measurement.
